Community Involvement

  • Deborah YoungVolunteered at the Grey Bruce Health Services, Owen Sound Site for 10 years
  • Member of the Sydenham History Seekers. This group of seniors wrote and published the second edition of the Sydenham History Book. Council lent them money, which they paid back in full and on time. Sufficient income was made that gifts were given to community groups, such as the Sydenham School Library.
  • Former member of the Friends of Leith Church. This group came to Council for a loan in order to put on the first Leith Day, celebrating the 115th anniversary of the birth of Tom Thomson. The money was paid back in full and on time. The group has continued and raised enough to restore the church and provide a bursary every year.
  • Former Director of the Owen Sound and District Chamber of Commerce. I hosted a television show on Rogers highlighting local businesses.
  • Co-Chair of the Sydenham Sesquicentennial Committee. This group celebrated Sydenham’s 150 Anniversary during the last year of its existence.
  • Former member of the Sydenham Agricultural Society. This committee provides a Fair every year for children. It is one of the last fairs where the main focus is the agricultural education of children.
